Thank you for visiting the PelHeat Blog. Development of new designs for the mobile pelletizer are coming along well. After looking at the original prototype we have changed and added several components and features.
New Designs and New Hydraulic Drive System
The original prototype was belt driven from the Perkins engine. The problems were that this limited several key aspects of designing a mobile pelletizer, namely equipment placement and weight distribution. Obviously designing a pellet production process on a small trailer is a challenge in its self, as there is limited space available. There are only so many possibilities where certain items can be placed, for example the pellet mill. Once they have being placed issues such as user access for operation and maintenance must be considered, this again may change the position of one or several components. Finally so the trailer performs adequately when towing, weight distribution is very important. Weight must be evenly distributed in the trailer, or towing complications such as swaying or pitching may occur. So with any new design and layout we come up with, all of the above must be considered.
We have now moved on from belt drive to a Variable Displacement Hydraulic Drive System. This gives us further flexibility with our designs and also has other key advantages. The Hammer Mill and Pellet Mill will now be controlled completely independently, with variable speed adjustment of the pellet mill to adjust to the material being processed. The means the user has options to choose pellet quality over productivity, or vice versa.
Hopper with Double Auger System
The Pellet Mill will now be fed via a hopper system where milled material from the Hammer Mill will be stored, before being feed into the Pellet Mill. The hopper will contain a Double Auger System also powered by the Hydraulic Drive System. Each Auger will have its own Hydraulic Motor which will give variable speed adjustment depending on what material is being fed into the pellet mill.
New Pellet Mill
The Pellet Mill has also being changed with adjustments to improve pellet quality, particularly for high density materials like wood pellets. The new Pellet Mill will also have improved productivity. Hydraulics will give the mill variable speed with full torque.
New Twin Axel Trailer with Weather Proof Cover
The pelletizer is now based on a slightly larger twin axel trailer, which will give improved stability when towing. The trailer will also now feature removal supports for the Weather Proof Cover. These improvements will mean the pelletizer is easy to tow and can be transported under all weather conditions.
Other Improvements
We are also designing the pelletizer with several other improvements to give the user more flexibility and control over the pellet production process and reduce manual labour requirements.
We hope to have developed the final product within the next few months, which will be posted on the Blog and the PelHeat website.
